My Favorite Way to Sew Bikini Straps
How to Sew Elastic Straps
Getting those bikini straps perfectly folded and sewn every single time was the most time-consuming thing 🥲
Then, I stumbled upon two tools meant for something completely different, and that’s when my favorite trick to speed up the process was born.
By the end of this article, you’ll know how to sew perfectly folded (and strong) bikini straps in half the time.

The Tools I Use to Make Durable Bikini Straps Fast!
Before I discovered these magical tools, I used to fold the strips manually, pin them all the way down, and then sew carefully—dodging a minefield of pins so I wouldn’t break my needle.
It worked, but it was soooo time-consuming.
So, I went on a mission to find a better, faster way—and that’s when I found these two little treasures! ✨

The red one is a bias tape maker, and the other one is a presser foot for sewing bias tape. You can buy them individually or get a set that includes both—plus plenty of other goodies for making bias tape!
DIY Bikini Straps Quick Summary
Here are the 3 essential steps to make bikini straps super fast using two of my favorite time-saving tools. Check out the video tutorial below to see the whole thing in action! (and get extra tips if you’re using a regular presser foot!)
Step #1 – Cut the Fabric
Cut a strip of stretch fabric 1 1/2” wide (4 cm) to your desired strap length. I like to cut one long strip (across the width of the fabric) so I have enough for both underbust and neck straps.
Step #2 – Fold the Fabric Strip & Set Up the Presser Foot
Feed the strip into the 3/4” (2 cm) bias tape maker, using a pin to guide it through. This folds 1 cm (3/8”) inward on each side. Then fold the strip in half to enclose the raw edges.
Attach the bias tape presser foot to your sewing machine. Loosen the screw to slide in the folded strip, and adjust it for a snug fit.
Step #3 – Sew & Finish the Strap
Select a zigzag stitch (width 4, length 4) and sew the strap guiding it through the presser foot while gently pulling the bias tape maker to feed more fabric.
Trim excess threads and fold the ends inward to finish off the straps.
